About Us
Nick Weiss is a sought-after writing teacher and the founder of The McCollum Writing School. He has worked with countless students, 2nd grade through college, from some of the country’s most competitive and rigorous schools, to build writing fundamentals and a love of the writing craft.
After graduating magna cum laude from Harvard, where he was awarded a Maier Scholarship and a John Harvard Scholarship, Nick worked for 15 years as a professional screenwriter, including projects with CBS, Universal, and Peacock. He also directed a movie for Paramount and a pilot for ABC.
Having taught English at LA’s Campbell Hall School (and tons of Hebrew School back in his younger years), Nick combined his passions for writing and teaching into the McCollum Writing School. His philosophy — of taking writing support beyond just homework help and approaching it in a curricular way to build ability and confidence long-term — has resonated deeply with families. He is ever-curious about new ways of engaging kids more deeply and substantively with their own writing. Most of all, he sees McCollum’s work in a holistic, relationship-driven way, grounded at its root in meaningful connections with both students and parents.
